China's inclusion in new aid declaration vital - Oxfam

The Executive Director of Oxfam New Zealand Barry Coates says China's inclusion in a new framework on aid delivery is a significant step forward.

Donors from 160 countries met in South Korea last week and have agreed to form a worldwide partnership on aid delivery, to be worked out in six months.

Brazil, Russia, India and China are among new and traditional donors which have endorsed the Busan Declaration.

Mr Coates says China's inclusion is important.

"It's great that China has agreed to essentailly enter into the dialogue. It's not clear how far China will completely orient its aid programme around these rules but certainly the fact that they're willing to engage in the dialogue and the rule-making is really important."
