Horsetrading intensifies among PNG MPs as budget due

2:49 pm on 2 December 2011

Papua New Guinea's Finance Minister Don Polye has indicated he will table the budget next Tuesday.

The tabling of the budget has been delayed twice after originally being scheduled for the 22nd of November.

Our correspondent Jonathan Tannos says the budget is due just three days before a Supreme Court ruling on the legitimacy of the government of Peter O'Neill.

"It creates a bit of anxiety around the community as to whether that is a real commitment or otherwise and at this time, there's a bit of horse-trading going around - members are actually lobbying in anticipation of the ruling going whichever way."
