Sport: Delay of PNG's rugbly league AGM raises concerns

The Rugby League International Federation says it's alarmed at the continuing instability in the sport in Papua New Guinea.

It follows a ruling by the country's High Court that Saturday's Annual General Meeting will not go ahead.

The interim administration has been instructed by the courts to show that the AGM notice and requirements of the meeting complied with the organisation's constitution.

Tas Baitieri from the Rugby League International Federation says the developments are worrying.

"It will have ramifications in further delays which will have consequences to the start of the new playing season and all the other peripheral things around that like our schoolboys competition, coaching and referee education programmes, and having it stagnate in this way is unacceptable after the 30-odd months of turmoil that we've just been through."

Tas Baitieri says the saga reflects poorly on the sport of rugby league and needs to be rectified quickly.
