Fiji's interim Prime Minister Commodore Frank Bainimarama says he is budgeting 3.1 million US dollars in 2012 for electronic voter registration and re-writing the country's constitution.

In his budget day speech Friday morning he says next year's financial plan will empower Fijians, modernise the nation and strengthen the economy.

Commodore Bainmarama says preparations for the promised elections in 2014 will start in September next year.

"No later than September 2012, our nation will commence work on a new constitution that establishes a fully representative government that is founded on electoral system that guarantees equal sufferage. For the first time in Fiji's history we will have a truly deomocratic system; one person, one vote, one value."

Commodore Bainmarama says the 2012 budget will grow the economy, ensure fiscal sustainability and attract investors.
