American Samoa and other United States Pacific territories are being considered seriously as the answer to job vacancies in Guam for the military build up.

The Guam Department of Labor says it will extend its construction recruitment process for jobs related to National Defense Authorization Act projects to the CNMI, American Samoa, the Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, California, Alaska, Oregon and Washington.

The Department's Director, Leah Beth Nahalowaa, says she hopes it will help reduce the high unemployment rate in Guam and the mainland.

She adds Guam workers will still be the priority.

Governor Togiola Tulafono has said the Government plans to appoint a liaison officer to be based in Guam to look after the needs of any employees from American Samoa who will migrate to Guam.
