Police in Samoa investigate death of new born baby

4:33 pm on 11 November 2011

The police in Samoa are still waiting for a post mortem report after the discovery three weeks ago of the body of a new born baby in a suitcase at a home at Aleisa village.

The police had dug a grave and found the baby's remains after a close relative informed the authorities.

Police sources say a woman officer working at the main Tafaigata prison is alleged to be the mother of the dead baby.

The assistant police commissioner, Leaupepe Fatu Pula, has told reporters it's too early to decide if a crime has been committed because investigations are still being carried out and a DNA test needs to be done.
