Clergy invite APEC leaders to meeting

11:25 am on 7 November 2011

Dozens of clergy from around the Pacific are calling on members of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation to prioritise people's welfare in their decision making.

Members from the Faith Action for Community Equity organisation based in Hawaii have invited APEC leaders to a meeting in Waikiki tomorrow

A speaker at the event, Reverend Samuel Domingo says the gathering is an opportunity to send a strong message to APEC.

"We want to emphasise what has been happening in the past is that the bottom line has always been how much money is going to be made, and with little regard to sometimes environmental consequences as well as economic consequences for local economies."

Reverend Samuel Domingo says the meeting has been timed to coincide with the APEC 2011 Leaders Meeting being held this week.
