Tahiti Tourisme boss Janicaud dismissed

12:54 pm on 3 November 2011

The head of French Polynesia's tourism agency, Teva Janicaud, has been dismissed.

According to Tahitipresse, the board took the decision at the beginning of the week, with Mr Janicaud saying he is not surprised given that he has been advising it that he didn't want to stay on under the current circumstances.

No details have been given about what prompted him to seek an end to leading Tahiti Tourisme.

The head of the board, Steeve Hamblin, says for financial reasons, an internal replacement is being considered.

Tourism has seen a steady decline in recent years but the fall in the number of arrivals appears to have bottomed out.
