Six French Polynesia islands at risk of losing air link

6:36 pm on 26 October 2011

French Polynesia's domestic carrier says it has stopped taking bookings to six destinations from late January.

Air Tahiti says it is considering stopping its service to the six islands because it has been incurring big losses for many years as it has only been able to use small aircraft.

The destinations affected are Ua Pou, Ua Huka, Apataki, Puka-Puka, Fakahina and Takume.

Air Tahiti says it will negotiate with the government to see what can be done to maintain links.

The airline's network covers 46 islands.
