The Chief Executive of the Samoa Rugby Union has rejected allegations that he treated the world cup as a holiday and spent the majority of his time playing golf and drinking in the team hotel.
The accusations were raised in a report by Manu Samoa captain Mahonri Schwalger, which was published in local newspapers.
It criticised the conduct of senior management at the world cup, suggesting Vice-Chairman Lefau Harry Schuster was more focused on enjoying himself with his mates than helping the team; that Manager Matthew Vaea would disappear for long periods; and that Assistant Manager Ryan Schuster was unprofessional.
Union CEO Su'a Peter Schuster says he assisted the team in sourcing extra gear and boots and rejects the suggestion he spent the tournament socialising.
"Before the start of the tour when we got into New Zealand I specifically clarified the of my role is helping out assisting the head coach and team manager of the issues requiring assistance. And also I will be doing PR work and also looking after the rugby union sponsors."
Su'a Peter Schuster says players he's spoken to were happy with the way the tournament went and that the main disappointment was the teams loss to Wales in pool play.
The Chairman of the SRU, Prime Minister Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, has ordered a full audit of the Rugby World Cup funds spent on the Manu Samoa team in the wake of the allegations.
