Caretaker president of Kiribati says Fiji should be re-admitted to Forum

The caretaker president of Kiribati, Anote Tong, says he stands by his stance that Fiji should be re-admitted to the Pacific Islands Forum.

Fiji is suspended from the Forum over its refusal to hold democratic elections, but is allowed to participate in trade talks at official level only.

Mr Tong says the Pacific tends to be more inclusive than exclusive.

He says arriving at a solution to disagreement becomes more difficult if there is no dialogue.

"At the moment, with Fiji out of the Forum, there is no dialogue. The question is, are we trying to resolve the issue, or trying to resolve our own attitudes. Are we satisfying our attitudes?"

Anote Tong says Kiribati continues to maintain one on one dialogue with the Fiji regime.
