Samoa's Victim Support Group says it hopes cabinet will support a newly drafted bill that would ensure greater support for the group's work with victims of domestic violence.
The Family Safety Bill on preventing violence against women and children aims to give more power to those dealing with abuse, such as officials in health, police and education.
The Victim Support's president, Lina Chang, says violence is a major problem in Samoan society and more needs to be done.
"It's not only minor violence now, meaning it's not only violence where you just slap someone on the face or just use abusive words. But at the same time, we are looking at brutal violence. It's horrific to see just how far violence can go. But with the Family Safety Bill , and helping people to have a good mindset through the awareness programmes that we have, it should make a difference."
