DNA tests in France have confirmed that the human remains found in a fire in French Polynesia are from a German yachtsman, Stefan Ramin, who went missing nearly two weeks ago.

La Depeche de Tahiti says the Paris tests confirm the findings by forensic experts in Tahiti.

The remains were found in ashes in a remote Nuku Hiva valley when a 20-strong police force was searching for him and a local guide, Henri Haiti.

Mr Haiti is suspected to killing Mr Ramin and assaulting Mr Ramin's wife who raised the alarm.

Police are yet to find Mr Haiti who has been on the run for nearly two weeks.
