Reports from Tonga say the speaker of parliament Lord Lasike is due to appear in court next month on one count of unlawful possession of ammunition.

The Matangi Tonga website reports a warrant for Lord Lasike's arrest was issued after he failed to turn up to court on Friday but the warrant was cencelled after he appeared before Justice Robert Shuster later in the day.

The report says Lord Lasike was given bail and his arraignment set for the 11th of November.

The charge relates to the discovery of rifle bullets in a motel room in central Nuku'alofa last June.
