Lingle to seek Hawaii's US Senate seat

2:36 pm on 13 October 2011

The former governor of Hawaii, Linda Lingle, is making a run for the United States Congress.

Ms Lingle, Hawaii's first woman governor, will run as the leading Republican seeking the Senate seat that will be vacant when Democrat Daniel Akaka retires next year.

She says she is making job creation and economic growth her top priorities.

Ms Lingle has to first win the Republican primary, and then face a race against either Democratic Congresswoman Mazie Hirono or former congressman Ed Case.
