Growing anger in Vanuatu over government failure to pay out school grants

Primary schools around Vanuatu say they're fed up with the delay in the transfer of donor funds and a government grant to cover the costs of free education.

The government introduced the concept earlier this year with Australia, New Zealand and UNESCO contributing nearly three million dollars to cover the costs involved.

Last month the ministry of education claimed a second tranche of the money had already been transferred into the respective schools' accounts, but that was not the case.

Then last week, the director general of education, Jessie Dick, promised the transfers will be done by Monday this week, but as of today no money had been deposited.
