Tonga produced the biggest upset of the Rugby World Cup, beating France 19-14 in Wellington on Saturday.

But it wasn't enough to send them into the quarter finals, with the 'Ikale Tahi unable to score the four tries needed to get them into the knockout rounds.

Tonga led 13-6 at halftime, with Sukanaivalu Hufanga scoring their only try from a Kurt Morath cross-kick, and continued to press the French line in the second spell.

The historic win guarantees the Tongans direct qualification for the 2015 World Cup in England, provided the All Blacks beat Canada on Sunday.
