Felony charges filed against American Samoa robbery accused

The American Samoa Government has filed felony charges against a 20-year-old man accused of holding up a store clerk at gunpoint last week in Ottoville.

Asotasi Maiava was charged in the District Court with first degree robbery, conspiracy to commit robbery and unlawful use of a weapon .

Maiava is alleged to have pointed a gun at a store clerk and demanded money.

He along with two juveniles, ages 14 and 17, were all wearing sweaters with hoods to disguise their identities.

According to the government the three took off with cash, cigarettes and phone cards.

Bail for Maiava remains at $100,000 and his next court appearance has been set for October 6.
