The Interim Chairman of Papua New Guinea Rugby League says he's hopeful Adrian Lam can stay on as national coach.
Lam was in charge of the Kumuls during Sunday's 36-22 loss to the Australian Prime Minister's XIII in Lae.
He previously coached the team for four years before quitting over the infighting and instability at board level, with Stanley Gene taking charge for last year's Four Nation's campaign.
The Interim Chairman of the PNGRFL John Numapo is hopeful Lam is back for the longhaul.
"We've made it clear to Adrian and the team management that their appointment is really for this year only, and that's against the Australian Prime Minister's XIII which was completed last weekend, then of course the Fijian games next month. As for next year and onwards it will be up to the new board to appoint coach and the team management. But I would like to think, for continuity and consistency, that that Adrian should be retained as the national coach."
The PNGRFL is due to elect a permanent chairman and board at their annual general meeting in two months time.
