Delayed payments inconvenience CNMI students

A Northern Marianas College official says persistent delays in the release of financial aid from the Northern Marianas local government's scholarship programmmes is taking its toll on students at the College, particularly those from Rota and Tinian.

The dean of Student Services, Leo Pangelinan, says many of the relocated students are experiencing difficulties in paying for rent and, in the worst cases, have run out of food.

Mr Pangelinan says many College students rely on financial assistance cheques from both the Saipan Higher Education Financial Assistance and the CNMI Scholarship Office.

He says many students have been evicted or threatened with eviction for failing to meet rent payments.

Mr Pangelinan says the College has only been able to provide a short extension for the payment of tuition, books, and other fees.
