Talks between Air Pacific and flight attendants resume in Fiji

12:35 pm on 21 September 2011

Talks have resumed in Fiji between representatives of Air Pacific's flight attendants and the airline's management, as a deadline looms which makes their collective agreement invalid.

The national airline is listed as one of the entities vital to Fiji's economy under the new Essential National Industries Decree.

The decree came into force earlier this month and makes all collective agreements involving listed companies and industries invalid after 60 days.

A Transport Workers' Union spokesperson says talks started yesterday and the union hopes outstanding issues between employees and the airline can be resolved.

Air Pacific has proposed a profit sharing plan for its employees who have called for the retention of benefits and allowances.

The union says any further comment on the talks would be counter-productive.
