The American Samoa Fono is seeking to stop the Power Authority from moving forward with its new rates set to come into effect on October the 1st.
A bill was introduced in both the Senate and House to stop a planned rates increase in utility services by the American Samoa Power Authority until further action by the Fono.
The proposed legislation provides an immediate effective date by the Fono and has been approved by the Governor.
The Senate President Gaoteote Palaie says it appears whenever the Power Authority wants to increase rates, they do it, yet the utility hasn't submitted financial reports that the Fono requested, to show where the funds are going.
He says the Authority hasn't provided enough justification to raise rates.
