Tuilaepa rejects Samoa daylight savings criticism

12:17 pm on 20 September 2011

Samoa's Prime Minister has rejected criticism from the opposition that daylight savings time has no benefit.

Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi says only those who farm and go straight home after work understand the benefits of daylight savings.

The Samoa Chamber of Commerce has said that daylight savings results in a loss of productivity in the private sector.

But Tuilapepa says that's nonsense.

He says daylight savings is actually benefitting people and increasing productivity.

Samoa winds clocks forward by an hour this weekend.
