Fiji's ministry of health has issued further warnings to food manufacturers to reduce the salt and sugar content in their processed foods.

The interim minister for health, Dr Neil Sharma, says numerous communications from the ministry over high salt and sugar content have been ignored.

He says if there is no action the businesses will face penalties.

Dr Sharma says they are now also targetting trans fatty acid levels which are considered major contributors to non-communicable disease.
