Sport: Fiji confident amidst Samoa hype

10:39 am on 20 September 2011

Despite being largely ignored amidst all the talk surrounding Samoa and Wales, Fiji still believe they can qualify for the Rugby World Cup knockout rounds.

The Flying Fijians opened their tournament with a convincing win over Namibia but were thumped 49-3 by South Africa at the weekend.

They face Samoa in a sold-out all-Island affair this Sunday and assistant coach Greg Mumm says despite all the hype surrounding their opponents they're confident they can come out on top and keep their top eight hopes alive.

"There's no difference from the situation now what it was in 2007. The great this for us is I think we know that we can beat both Samoa and Wales and have done in the last four years. So for our guys it is a tough pool but we're confident we can achieve what we want to achieve in. Obviously everyone's talking up Wales and everybody's talking up Samoa - it's a good position for us to be in and we're just confident if we keep working hard we'll get the results we want."
