PNG police seek to question three MPs

9:38 am on 19 September 2011

The Papua New Guinea police commissioner Anthony Wagambie has appealed to three members of parliament to voluntarily come in for interviews.

The Commissioner says the three are Paul Tiensten, Peter Wararu and Francis Potape.

Commissioner Wagambie says so far, the three have not responded to written and verbal requests.

He says complaints were made and police investigations have been underway for quite some time, with the three leaders now required to shed some light on a number of areas which they may have some knowledge of.

Commissioner Wagambie says his action is not a political move but a normal police matter.

He says PNG is not a police state and everyone is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
