US to launch missile on international peace day

2:39 pm on 16 September 2011

The launch of another United States nuclear-capable missile coincides with next week's United Nations International Day of Peace.

The test will take place at Vandenberg Air Force Base in California on September the 21st with a target in the Marshall Islands.

In response, the Nuclear Age Peace Foundation has launched an action alert calling on the US President Barak Obama to cancel the test and take other steps it describes as contributing to the peace day, including taking all US nuclear weapons off high-alert.

Marshall Islands leaders have recently expressed concern about public safety in the region following the disappearance of two other US defence programme missiles.
