Samoa school hours change to adjust for daylight saving

6:37 am on 16 September 2011

Government school hours in Samoa have been adjusted as the country is preparing for daylight saving.

The Ministry of Education says all schools will be moving to start from 8.30 in the morning and finish at two in the afternoon.

The change comes after many criticised daylight saving last year because children had to catch the bus or walked to schools when it was still dark.

Samoa will begin its daylight saving on the same day as New Zealand, which this year is the last Sunday of the month.

Samoa will turn the clock from 3 am to 4 am in the morning as New Zealand will turn from 2 to 3 am on the same day.

On December the 29th, Samoa will join New Zealand on the west of the dateline and remain one hour ahead.
