Guam invites Obama after last year's cancelled visits

Guam's Delegate to the US Congress Madeleine Bordallo has invited President Barack Obama to visit Guam during his scheduled trip to the Asia-Pacific region in November.

Last year, Mr Obama twice cancelled his visit to Guam because of pressing issues in the US that included healthcare reform and a huge oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico.

Officials in the Northern Marianas say this may offer another opportunity to also invite the president to the CNMI.

The Governor, Benigno Fitial, reportedly mentioned this to the president at the National Governors Association meeting in Washington, D.C. in February.
