The Cook Islands government might have to cancel an official visit to China at the end of this week because it cannot afford to go.

Teariki Heather, who is the acting Prime Minister while Henry Puna is in New Zealand, says the government's civil list money has been used up.

Reports say the delegation was to fly to China from Auckland at the end of this week at a cost of about 50,000 US dollars.

The Cook Islands News has formally requested for disclosure following claims more than 150,000 US dollars has been spent on travel in little more than two months this year.
