Sport: Strikers set to dominate women's football semis at Pacific Games

10:48 am on 7 September 2011

Papua New Guinea say they'll be keeping a close eye on Fiji's front line in today's women's football semi final in Noumea.

PNG finished second in Pool A, behind host New Caledonia, but kept a clean sheet in all three of their victories.

"Coach Steven Mune watched Fiji's final pool match against Cook Islands and says their strikers are very dangerous and will take any opportunities that come their way."

He expects their semi final will be an attack-minded affair.

We've been polishing up on our finishing off and it's looking good. Like this afternoon session we've basically been working on how to approach their attack and also our structured play as well so should be a good game tomorrow.

New Caledonia play Tonga in the other women's semi in Kone.

Meanwhile in the men's semi finals New Caledonia will meet Tahiti while Fiji play Solomon Islands in Lifou.
