American Samoa's chief immigration officer, Ufuti Ieremia, says there are over 1,400 overstayers in the territory and he's passed this information on to the LBJ Medical Center.

Ufuti made the revelation when he appeared before lawmakers to testify on a bill that plans to fine the sponsors of overstayers.

The fines mooted are ten dollars for individual sponsors and 100 dollars for business sponsors.

Ufuti Ieremia says it'd be one way to locate the overstayers and bring down the numbers.
