A business in the Northern Marianas is to pay 80,000 US dollars and provide other relief to settle a pregnancy discrimination lawsuit.
The U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission had brought the suit against AA Enterprises, which had refused to pay the pregnancy-related medical expenses of at least four women, despite it paying the medical costs of other workers.
The pregnant staffers were threatened with dismissal if they didn't agree to cover their own medical expenses, and at least two were ulitimately dismissed for reporting the discrimination.
The money will cover back pay and other compensation.
