Book sale profits to go to Samoa tsunami survivors

Profits from the sale of a book that tells survivor stories from the 2009 tsunami in Samoa and Tonga are being donated back into the community.

Called 'Pacific Tsunami Galu Afi', the book was funded by AusAID in 2010, with more than 5,000 copies printed.

Samoan author Lani Wendt Young wrote the book after conducting more than one hundred interviews in the weeks following the tsunami.

She is visiting affected families in Samoa this month again with Hans-Joachim Keil, the former politician who had commissioned the book .

Lani Wendt Young says it's important to also give back just a small monetary gift to help people out with groceries and bills, or enable them to treat themselves.

"So it's been a year now. And so Mr Keil has now been able to sell enough copies that we are able to go back and touch base again with some of these families and give them a small meaalofa, and just a thank you, and to see how they are all doing again."
