Twelve different sports will be in action today on the first full day of competition in the Pacific Games.
The four-yearly event was officially opened by the French President Nicolas Sarkozy on Saturday and runs for two weeks.

"Swimming will be one of the first sports to dish out medals, with seven golds up for grabs in Dumbea, including the men's 4 by 100 metre freestyle relay and the women's 50 metre butterfly. The entire bodybuilding program will start and end today while also getting under is the men's and women's laser class sailors. In Mont Dore Fiji will begin their attempts to defend both the men's and women's basketball titles, while baseball, cricket, tennis, table tennis, volleyball, Va'a and squash will all make their first appearances of this year's Games. The men's football competition takes a break after a convincing win for New Caledonia at the weekend but the women are back in action at the PLGC ground, looking to make it two wins from two against Tahiti Nui."
