American Samoa census shows population decline

Census figures show American Samoa's population has declined and now stands at just over 55,000.

The US census was taken on April the 1st last year.

The figures show that in the preceding decade the population shrank by more than three percent.

Next year, more 2010 census statistics will be made available for American Samoa.

There has been no official comment from territorial officials on the count.
