Vanuatu's Council of Churches is threatening to lead a protest march over the government's plans to join the World Trade Organisation.
Its chairman, Bishop James Ligo, says large numbers of people of Vanuatu don't know about the WTO and the advantages and disadvantages in joining it.
Bishop Ligo says the council is planning to meet the prime minister Sato Kilman to raise its concerns.
He says if the government fails to listen to the churches, they'll organise a demonstration opposing the country's accession to the international trade agency.
Bishop Ligo says the people will be affected by the decision to join and his executive can't sit back.
Local businesses have already spoken out against the government's plans.
