One of the architects of Fiji's 1997 Constitution says Sir Paul Reeves was deeply disappointed and frustrated by events in Fiji after the regime annulled the document.
Brij Lal was a member of the Constitutional Review Commission which Sir Paul chaired.
Mr Lal says he's shocked and saddened by Sir Paul's death at the weekend.
"He was a man of grace and gravitas of compassion and conviction and his greatest achievement was to bring about a process of reconciliation in a Fiji that was hopelessly divided."
Brij Lal says Sir Paul hadn't given up on his work in Fiji and remained hopeful the Commission's work would not be forgotten.
