Public Service Commission to introduce counselling sessions to staff

1:44 pm on 11 August 2011

The Public Service Commission in Fiji is in the process of introducing counselling sessions for public servants to address mismanagement and abuse.

The permanent secretary for the Public Service Commission, Parmesh Chand, says the counselling policy is still being formulated.

But he says the sessions will aim at improving the working environment.

"It is important to introduce counselling policy and sessions largely from the point of reform we are undertaking. The reforms are meant to revamp the Civil Service and the reforms are also meant to cut out abuse and mismanagement and wastage. And the reforms are also meant to improve work practices and work perfromance."

Mr Chand says up to fifteen incidents involving breaches of the code of conduct in the work place are reported to the Commission each month - the figure has remained unchanged in two and half years.
