Draft legislation designed to protect the rights of creative Cook Islanders is being presented at a culture and traditional knowledge workshop in Rarotonga today.
The community has been invited to attend the workshop at Rarotonga's national auditorium to view and comment on the proposed legislation for copyright and traditional knowledge.
Liz Ponga, a policy officer with the Ministry of Cultural Development, encourages everyone with an interest in Cook Islands art, music and culture to attend the meeting and have their say on the prospective law.
She says laws have been in the planning stages for many years and it is about time more is done to safeguard the intellectual and creative property of Cook Islands people.
Ms Ponga says the bill may be introduced to parliament before the end of year.
