More scrutiny for visitors to American Samoa

3:29 pm on 9 August 2011

Travellers to American Samoa will face greater scrutiny with Pago Pago International Airport to get an X-ray machine.

The machine is being funded by the United States Department of Agriculture.

The governor, Togiola Tulafono, says the x-ray machine will greatly assist in detecting prohibited items hidden in suitcases.

He says it's widely believed drugs are smuggled in luggage and use of the X-ray machine, coupled with the use of drug dogs should help keep drugs out of the territory.
