Officials in the Northern Marianas say the number of patients receiving dialysis has doubled in the past ten years, confirming a surge in chronic disease leding to kidney failure.

Based on the latest records of Saipan's Commonwealth Health Center, from just 80 dialysis patients 10 years ago, the number being treated now stands at 159.

The manager of the CHC dialysis unit, Karlo Reyes, says these patients are being treated either at the hospital or at a private clinic on island.
