The third Northern Marianas congresswoman has been sworn into the 17th House of Representatives in a House of Representatives chamber on Capital Hill, Saipan.

Janet Maratita joins vice speaker Felicidad Ogumoro and Teresita Santos as women House lawmakers.

Her appointment marks the first time in CNMI history that three female members of the lower chamber will be serving at the same time.

Janet Maratita will serve the House as an independent, replacing the now retired Diego Benavente.

The acting governor, Eloy Inos, says the Fitial administration is thrilled and grateful that she was able to accept the appointment.
