The Cook Islands is planning to develop the world's largest marine park.

Following a week of public meetings, the Prime Minister Henry Puna announced the park proposal has garnered sufficient support to move forward to full design and establishment.

The Cook Islands has an exclusive economic zone of more than two million square kilometers, and a marine reserve would cover one million square kilometers of that.
