Air Tahiti Nui strike threat upheld

1:23 pm on 11 July 2011

Further talks to avert a one-day strike at Air Tahiti Nui have been without success.

Several unions plan a one-day stoppage tomorrow in support of the airline's CEO, Cedric Pastour, who is to be dismissed by the board when it meets tomorrow.

The unions met the French Polynesian President, Oscar Temaru, whose government helps fund the airline.

An earlier strike by some crews ended 10 days ago amid an apparent understanding that the CEO would be sacked.

Mr Pastour insisted on sanctioning two staff members for assaulting an American Airlines employee in Japan.
