Volunteers have stopped their search for two missing girls in the Northern Marianas but the government says it's still working on the case.

10-year-old Faloma and 9-year-old Maleina Luhk have been missing for nearly five weeks after last being seen leaving their home in As Teo.

An administration spokesperson Angel Demapan says the Department of Public Safety has combed the island with the help of hundreds of volunteers over the past few weeks.

There is a 50,000 US dollars on offer for information on the whereabouts of the two girls.

Last week, FBI agents returned to Hawaii with a tracking dog after an extensive search.

The administration says it's continuing to investigate all people and places of interest.
