Samoa's prime minister, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, says he'd be more than happy to welcome Fiji army colonel Ratu Tevita Uluilakeba Mara in Samoa.
This comes after the two men met in Australia recently and Colonel Mara seeking a request to visit Samoa.
Col Mara escaped to Tonga a month to avoid sedition charges and last week met with Fiji pro-democracy groups in Australia.
Tuilaepa says Col Mara's plan for returning Fiji to democracy is simple and peaceful.
In a media release he's congratulated Col Mara for admitting his guilt over involvement in the coup and has called for the interim Fiji leader, Commodore Frank Bainimarama, to do the same.
He says any solution to the political crisis has to come from the people of Fiji themselves and he's called for patience.
But Tuilaepa says Commodore Bainimarama needs to realise the hopelessness of his military regime replacing the constitutionally-elected government.
