Elderly American Samoans set to lose grants through Ageing Office schemes

Federal budget cuts will mean some of the senior citizens now employed by the American Samoa's Adminstration on Ageing Office will lose their jobs.

The office currently employs more than 200 people through training grants.

The director says that, like all other states and territories receiving federal funding for the elderly, the Ageing Office's allocation has been reduced.

He says the available funding cannot cover all of the present participants, so once they have accumulated a set number of hours they're required to leave and make room for new clients.
