Tahiti court to rule on budget validity

5:24 pm on 8 June 2011

French Polynesia's administrative court has ruled that there is no urgency in dealing with a challenge to the 2011 budget approved by the assembly.

Although the assembly passed the budget in February, the then president, Gaston Tong Sang, refused to accept it and instead published his own as the official document.

In April, the government was ousted and another budget was published.

Mr Tong Sang insists that the document which his minority administration had presented is the relevant one.

Tahitipresse says the court is expected to issue its ruling in a week.
