The dry season in Samoa has caused a water shortage in the Aleipata district on Upolu.
The chief executive officer, Ta'inau Titimaea, says the situation in the Aleipata villages of Lepa and Saleapaga is critical with water trucked in until 10 each night.
He says that pumps at bores in other villages, Lalomanu and Satitoa, now operate extra hours to supply water to residents of the district.
The CEO says the situation will last until adequate rainfall returns.
Most residents in Aleipata moved inland after the 2009 tsunami and many receive adequate supply from water networks set up for them, including from a nearby lake.
But Mr Titimaea says some residents are returning to the coast where the shortage is most apparent.
He has urged residents not to waste water, not to leave taps running and to fix leaks.
